Title: The Blue Ferry Day
Level: Intermediate (B1-B2)
Description
In the old part of Istanbul, near the Galata Tower, there is a shop with no name above the door. Its window is full of glowing glass bottles, and it buys the one thing nobody can ever get back: memories. Kemal Aksoy, a proud seventy-eight-year-old widower, walks in because his granddaughter needs money for university and he has nothing left to sell.
One by one, Kemal sells the memories he thinks he does not need. Then, on the day he sells just one more, something goes wrong. A photograph of a laughing girl in a yellow scarf shows him exactly what he has lost, and by the time he understands, the bottle is already on a shelf.
The Blue Ferry Day is a warm, magical story about love, memory, and the family stories we tell again and again, written in clear, simple English for intermediate learners. It builds to a complete and satisfying ending in which a granddaughter finds a way to give her grandfather back the day that changed his life.
