St. Francis Choe risked his life recovering the bodies of Korea's martyrs — and his own martyred family raised Korea's second native priest.
Married in secret amid Korea's brutal anti-Catholic persecution, Francis Choe and Maria Yi built a hidden Christian village and quietly passed their faith to their children by lamplight. Both parents were martyred in 1839, but their son went on to become the second Korean-born Catholic priest in history.
