On the night of 27 January 1997, a driver made his way along the North Circular Road in north London. In the darkness ahead of him, something was wrong. There was a man on the grass verge at the side of the road. He was on fire. The driver could not have known that what he was looking at would set in motion years of grief, of obstruction, of a family's refusal to be silenced - a fight for justice that would expose one of the most shameful failures in the history of the Metropolitan Police.
