In this episode, listeners will define rickets and explain the roles of vitamin D, calcium and phosphate in bone mineralization, differentiate the types and common causes of rickets, identify the risk factors associated with rickets and epidemiological implications in a Canadian context, recognize common clinical symptoms and diagnostic investigation findings, develop an approach to the management of rickets, and identify prevention strategies to apply in clinical practice for high-risk populations. This podcasts was created by Sarah Clements, a second year medical student at McMaster University, in collaboration with Dr. Ranu Malhi, a general pediatrician at McMaster Children's Hospital.
