Dr. Susarla earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his medical and dental degrees from Harvard, and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed residencies in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins, followed by a craniofacial surgery fellowship at Seattle Children's.

He has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and numerous textbook chapters, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
