Wednesday 10th of April 1940 at 10.15am, Alfred Scott, a surveyor for Bates & Co, an estate agents in Kilburn entered 21 Brondesbury Villas, to check that the premises was empty. Inside, he found that the first floor flat had been ransacked, two bags (a Gladstone and an attache case) had been searched for a specific item, and the tenant, 60-year-old Karoline Jones had been murdered.
