Hosted by Dr David Keir
Dr. Julian Dantes joins Dr. David to discuss the honest journey from a rural “sink or swim” graduate
to a successful practice owner on the Sunshine Coast. Unlike the curated perfection often seen on
social media, Julian shares the raw reality of general dentistry, including his pivot from medicine
and the irony of failing a university “people skills” test despite being a people-focused clinician.
In this candid conversation, you will learn about the dangers of early confidence in implant dentistry
and the specific steps Julian took to recover from clinical mistakes, including the power of
photography. Julian reveals how a rare finger tumor forced him to rethink his work-life balance,
moving from six clinical days a week to three. He also breaks down his structured mentorship
model for new graduates and explains why mastering the basics, like isolation and simple fillings, is
the true foundation for complex aesthetic work.
