Your favorite literary chaos agents Abby and Ronnie are back with our second fantasy draft episode, this time focusing on the Marked Ones of the Empyrean series! We're choosing Garrick, Bodhi, Imogen, Sloane, and Liam in categories that will make you laugh, cry, and everything in between.
We kick things off with a heated debate about the proper condiments for french fries (mayo supremacy vs. sweet barbecue) before diving into our main event. First, we tackle the most onbvious question: who's the most powerful Marked One? Is it distance-wielding Garrick who can literally teleport across continents with his dragon, or nobility-born Bodhi with his signet-countering abilities and mysterious second signet? Our answers surprise you!
Then we explore whose signet would be the absolute worst to accidentally wield in the bedroom (memory erasing, anyone?), and debate which of our beloved characters is most likely to die in the upcoming books (we're looking at you, reckless Bodhi). We analyze who would make the best wingman or wingwoman (Liam already executes this to a T), who would have your back in a back-alley fight (Imogen's "I will destroy you" energy vs. Garrick's human wall vibes), and who will play the biggest role in upcoming books.
Our Precog Corner gets particularly juicy this week with two mind-blowing theories: First, could Fen Riorson actually be alive and held captive at Basgiath? We bring receipts from that cryptic Panchek-Berwyn conversation about "access to your son" and what it might really mean. Then we explore the fascinating connection between Liam's family name (Mairi) and its meaning "of the sea" - could this explain the mysterious box with the Mairi crest that lured the Venin? Are the Irids somehow connected to water, and was that box actually a booby trap?
We round things out with our current reads and some fascinating thoughts on the Washington Post article about "book boyfriends" and whether romantasy is creating unrealistic expectations for real men. (Spoiler: we think men should absolutely read these books!)
