President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress last night did exactly what it was supposed to do; energise the Republicans and shame the Democrats. What was surprising, is the continuing lack of political pragmatism from the left side of the aisle, who seem quite comfortable with letting Trump score easy points against them. Trump lauded his decisions on women’s sports and mentioned that Ukraine’s President Zelensky still wants to talk, and left his supporters cheering for more.
