In this deeply heartfelt episode, I sit down with Beth Syverson, an adoptive mother, coach, and advocate for families navigating the challenges of adoption. Beth opens up about her personal journey as an adoptive mom to her son Joey, whom she adopted from Japan as an infant. The conversation touches on the emotional complexities of adoption, the importance of self-work for adoptive parents, and how these efforts can improve parent-child relationships.

Beth shares the pivotal moment when her son faced a crisis at age 15, leading them both to immerse themselves in adoption therapy, literature, and the adoption community. This experience transformed Beth’s understanding of adoption trauma and set her on a path to help others through coaching, community support, and her co-authored book, Adoption and Suicidality. We also discuss the strain adoption can place on marriages and why open family conversations are essential.

Tune in to learn more about Beth's inspiring work, including her newly rebranded Unraveling Adoption podcast, which provides a compassionate space for adoptive parents and those interested in understanding adoption's multifaceted impacts. Plus, discover how her coaching services and workshops offer tools for those seeking healing and deeper understanding.

About Beth Syverson:Beth is an adoptive mother to her son Joey and a certified coach who works with adoptive parents to navigate adoption trauma and challenges. After witnessing firsthand the impact of adoption on her family, she created the Safe Home Podcast, now known as Unraveling Adoption, to share her insights and support other families. Beth became a Certified Coach through the Virginia Satir Global Network's Coaching and Mentorship Program in 2023 and now provides individual and group coaching, hosts events, and champions awareness around adoption trauma.
