EVERYDAY DISCIPLES S1:E1
Everyday Disciples, where we prioritize Following the way of Jesus in everything, everywhere, every day.
And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17
SHOW NOTES
Welcome to the Everyday Disciples podcast, where we discuss what it means to follow Jesus in everything, everywhere, every day. At Crossroads, one of our values is being everyday disciples.
Being Everyday Disciples means our relationship with God is intended to shape every part of our lives. There is no separation between the mundane and the spiritual. Our life with God isn't confined to a moment on Sunday morning; it is to be lived every moment and in every setting. [If you’d like to dive into this concept further, these passages are a good starting point: Matthew 5:13-16; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:13; Psalm 145:2; Luke 9:23; Daniel 12:3 Philippians 2:14-16]
In this first season, we will explore 8 habits and practices that help us to better follow in the way of Jesus. Along the way, we will take questions from you - our listeners - about the things you are thinking through, facing, or wrestling with and bring those into our conversations.
In this first episode, we are asking: Who are you following? What does it mean to follow Jesus? and where do we start?
Over the next month, we encourage you to practice intentionally orienting your days to pay attention to God's presence. We will engage in three practices together. These are tools not rules. The aim of these practices is to intentionally aim our days toward Jesus. Perfect action is not the aim, drawing closer to Jesus is.
PRACTICES FOR THE MONTH:
1. TAKE AN AUDIT OF WHO YOU ARE FOLLOWING
Who are the voices, the authors, the thinkers, the people you are giving weight to in your life? Are they drawing you closer to God or pulling you away?
2. BEGIN YOUR DAY WITH SCRIPTURE
Scripture before your phone, news, or anything else. Let the first voice of your day be the word of God.
3. END YOUR DAY WITH REFLECTION
Take a few minutes (even as you are falling asleep) to simply ask these three questions:
- God, where did I see you move today?
- God, what do you want me to pay attention to (good/bad) from my day?
- God, what do I need to release to you right now?
(Feel free to make the language your own. Again, the aim is to end your day with God)
