Watching Watches Watch
About this episode

This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Brother Rick is conspicuously absent, so it's Ariel running the show alongside Ripley and David, who all know that to take a podcast vacation now would be to deprive listeners of the comfort of a discussion of their watch hobby straight to their ears. The guys get right to it with a look the new Venezianico Arsenale. Ariel proposes that when glasses take over smartwatches, the wrist will become available again for useless things like mechanical timekeeping. They veer off associatively into the rabbit hole of augmented reality. Getting back to basics, Ripley posits that when simplicity is done right, it can be more impressive than a busy dial because your attention is focused only on a few elements. Next up is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 226938 18k yellow-gold watch, which Ariel likes quite a lot, even though the dial has never sold him on "pretty." Ripley says he'd take it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak. David agrees that it's a powerful watch in its complications and execution, but it's not right for his wrist (too heavy). Then the team discusses David's most recent "Grinding Gears" article, in which he asks "How long should watch brands milk historic achievements?" Next up is a look at the new Bulova Lunar Pilot "Blood Moon" watch, which David thinks is too large even in its smallest form, but everyone loves the story of this watch. Listen in for more. Speaking of small, the Hamilton PSR74, a modern LED with a retro look. David isn't sure he would spend upwards of $800 on this watch, though he's happy it exists. Then, they discuss the watch that the Venezianico Arsenale wants to be: the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph in Milano Blue. They end with a look at a deep dive into Bulgari's new watch manufacture and the Hands-On: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono 'Cycling Edition' And The Role Of Watches In Professional Cycling | aBlogtoWatch Maybe when Rick gets back, he'll bring Hit, Miss, Maybe with him.
