Men and Style - Essays, Interviews and C...

The VOU Official
About this episode

In today's take we discuss "Men and Style - Essays, Interviews and Considerations" by David Coggins an excellent book going beyond the standard “what to wear” advice. Equal parts style guide and intriguing conversation about the masculine identity within the world of fashion, we explore the history of men’s style and learns from some of the most notable tastemakers in the industry and beyond. We explore style as distinct from fashion, emphasising individual expression and the cultivation of timeless taste over fleeting trends via lots of personal stories and expert opinions. We also examine the development of personal style across a lifetime, highlighting the importance of attention to detail, the value of classic garments (like the suit and blazer), and the role of personal history and experience in shaping one's aesthetic, championing a refined, understated elegance and rejecting superficial conformity.
