Body Cam Footage, Testimony in Third Day of Kennesaw Fatal DUI Trial
In the trial of Jerome “Jerry” Cox, accused of fatally hitting 17-year-old Olivia Pugh while allegedly driving drunk, testimony continued with police body camera footage shown to jurors. The footage captured the aftermath of the crash, including Pugh being loaded into an ambulance. Cox, 69, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide and DUI charges. Testimonies included those from responding officers, passengers in Cox's car, and a bystander. Officer Steven Oney testified about smelling alcohol on Cox, who admitted to drinking. The defense questioned the reliability of the officers' testimonies and the handling of evidence. Disputes arose over whether Pugh was in a crosswalk when struck. The defense also attempted to introduce evidence about post-crash safety improvements, which was disallowed. Witnesses from a party Cox attended earlier testified about his drinking, with none believing he was drunk. The trial is set to continue, with a potential break for Thanksgiving.
