When economic blockade encouraged the Portuguese to hold on to Goa rather than abandon it, India finally decided to use force. USA tried last minute diplomatic manoeuvres but Indian soldiers finally moved ahead. The disparity in military strength between the Indian and Portuguese forces was overwhelming.
