In this special episode, RANE Founder and Chief Collaborative Officer, David Lawrence, sits down with James Brady-Banzet and Thomas Bednar of Cleary Gottlieb.

James Brady-Banzet is a Partner at Cleary Gottlieb, a role he has held since 2019. His practice focuses on dispute resolution, investigations, and enforcement. James has substantial experience representing some of the world’s leading organizations on a wide range of commercial disputes, banking disputes, and international arbitrations. He has considerable trial experience, and his work frequently involves complex multijurisdictional matters and high-stakes disputes. James also has significant experience representing clients in investigations by regulatory and law enforcement authorities, including UK Financial Conduct Authority and the Serious Fraud Office. He has been named a commercial litigation and arbitration “Rising Star” by Legal Week and is recognized by the leading directories for his expertise in banking litigation and commercial litigation. 

Thomas Bednar is a Counsel at Cleary Gottlieb. His practice focuses on securities enforcement and litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and litigation. Thomas joined Cleary Gottlieb after spending 13 years in the federal government, first as a federal prosecutor and then as an enforcement trial lawyer at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Thomas has extensive experience leading investigations and litigation involving alleged violations of the federal securities laws, particularly in matters involving accounting and issuer disclosure fraud. Prior to joining the SEC, Thomas was an Assistant US Attorney for the District of Columbia from 2009-2014, trying over 40 cases to verdict and investigating numerous offenses, including complex white collar and national security cases.
