In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Sagar Daryani in conversation with Raj Shamani. He is the Founder and CEO of Wow! Momo Foods Pvt. Ltd. He has in-depth knowledge when it comes to restaurant businesses and overall business making. In this episode, we talked about the different licences that are needed to open a restaurant business, how it differs in various states, why they sell momo at 3x price, and how their business is growing. We then talked about the history of momo, why it suddenly got so popular, in which cities and states their momo are being sold the most. We also discussed the gap in the cuisine market of India and potential foods that have a huge market in India. He also talked about the pick-up food model is better than cloud kitchens and how they have the potential to grow more. Towards the end, we discussed why he says the future will belong to businesses that started in small towns and whether having business at railway stations and airports affects the brand positioning of the business. He then shared the top 3 mistakes small restaurants make, he also shared advice for new restaurant owners and compared Zomato and Swiggy. We ended our conversation by talking about why he didn’t start the franchises of Wow! Momo and shared their yearly revenue and future goals.
