Demand Response Mechanisms: Saving Money...

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
About this episode

Welcome back to the second series of The Future of Homes and Buildings podcast.

As usual, this podcast constantly explores the many different ways to make homes and buildings performing better in terms of CO2 emissions so that they are less harmful to the environment.

This #2 episode of the new series break into a brand new territory: the world of "Demand Response".

You’ve probably often heard this wording. But do you know exactly what it means and what it implies for our homes and our buildings?

Survoltage has made Demand / Response a business. This business brings very concrete benefits to home owners and building owners to manage their energy more wisely, helping them decrease their energy bills, and ultimately their emissions.

Survoltage end-goal is to avoid producing electricity that is not green – in other words, produced by oil-based or coal-based plants. These polluting power plants are often necessary especially at peak times, when everyone needs electricity supply at the same time. Indeed, at these times of the day, renewable energy are not sufficient any longer to ensure every need.

But what if we start acting on the consumption itself? What if some of your appliances, you’d start them only after the peak is over, or even before the peak starts? Would it change anything to your comfort?

This is exactly what Survoltage does. Shifting the time you are consuming electricity – i.e. using some appliances – in an automatic way, and without compromising on your comfort. Suddenly Demand Response starts to be very concrete and very appealing!

Survoltage is accessible now to all users of the Wiser app, by Schneider Electric, in France. And soon in other parts of Europe as Survoltage expand their services.

Listen to this passionate conversation Michael Lotfy Gierges, Executive Vice President Home & Distribution at Schneider Electric, had with Jeff Knoepfli, CEO and Co-founder of Survoltage.
