On December 5, 1945, Flight 19 left NAS Fort Lauderdale for a routine training exercise. However, somewhere along the way, a wrong turn took them away from their planned path. Their flight leader Lieutenant Taylor was unable to guide them back to land, with malfunctioning compasses and no sign of the mainland anywhere, Flight 19 disappeared somewhere in the Atlantic with no trace of the patrol of 5 bombers or their crew to ever be seen again.
