10. STRENGTHENING IDENTITY THROUGH TATREEZ WITH JENNA FROM WEEKEND THREADS
JENNA IS A PALESTINIAN-AMERICAN TEXTILE ARTIST. BASED IN LOS ANGELES, JENNA STARTED HER TATREEZ JOURNEY IN 2021. (@weekendthreads_).
Like so many Palestinians in the diaspora, Jenna has struggled in feeling confident in her Palestinian identity and tatreez, for her, has become more than art: it has become a way for her to relate to Palestinian culture and it contributes to her Palestinian identity.
Her and her family’s story is one that many of us can relate to and our conversation together is yet another proof point that tatreez IS identity. Tatreez IS community.
Make sure to follow Jenna @weekendthreads_ on Instagram, check out her website, and if you’re in LA, find and join Jenna at her next tatreez circle!
