Factory employees and other working-class voters have long been a key political constituency in Midwest states like Michigan. They had been reliable Democrats, but former President Donald Trump won many of them over to his column in 2016. His continued appeal among blue-collar voters has kept him on track to once again secure the GOP nomination. It’s a voting bloc that also will be hotly contested in the general election.
