It was another pulsating day of test cricket between India and England. Captain Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat on a controversial wicket in Ranchi - which was full of cracks and variable bounce - and England promptly fell to 112-5. After being heavily criticised for his poor form and the manner of his dismissals in the previous tests, Joe Root went on to hit a controlled century and was unbeaten on 106 at the close. England finished on 302/7 and will look to go beyond 350 when play resumes tomorrow morning at 4am.
