The Sacredness of Secular Work (Ft. Jord...

JORDAN LEE DOOLEY
About this episode

Does your work matter for eternity?

Many people don’t believe so, or they think that the only time their work has eternal significance is when they are actively evangelizing.

But that’s not what the Bible says.

While sharing the Gospel is an essential part of being a Christian, the Great Commission and call to evangelize is not the only commission in the Bible.

And when we study the First Commission in the Bible, we begin to see just how valuable every part of our work is, whether it’s changing diapers as a stay-at-home mom, roasting coffee as a barista, or making financial decisions as an entrepreneur.

In this episode, Jordan talks with the author of “The Sacredness of Secular Work”, Jordan Raynor. Together they explore how our daily jobs have intrinsic and eternal value.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The difference between the instrumental and intrinsic value of our work
  • The problems that arise when the Church makes the Great Commission the only commission
  • What other commission(s) the Bible gives
  • What the unabridged Gospel teaches us about the purpose we have in our work
  • Why you don't have to work in ministry or a "Christian business" to have purpose
  • The problem with the half-truth that “Earth is our temporary home” and how this affects how we view our work
