US CPI data, revealing that headline prices increased more than expected in December while core inflation fell, disappointed equity markets on Thursday. A US/UK airstrike on Houthi rebels in Yemen added to inflationary concerns although it did provide a boost to oil prices. Markets are now turning their attention to the US earnings season.
