Richard Chase Part 1

Well, Hello Mr Fancy Pants
About this episode

Due to the graphic nature of this content, listener discretion is strongly advised.

Lindy explores the troubled life of Richard Chase Jr., a man with a disturbing childhood and a descent into violence and mental illness. The story begins with a shocking discovery by authorities in Pyramid Lake Reservation, Nevada. Richard's parents, Beatrice and Richard Sr., had a tumultuous relationship, and Richard Jr. grew up in a toxic environment. He developed disturbing interests in killing animals and playing with their corpses. As he grew older, his behavior escalated to substance abuse and a fascination with fire. Despite attempts at therapy and reconciliation, Richard's mental health continued to deteriorate. Rick's life spirals further into madness as he becomes consumed by hypochondria, paranoia, and conspiracy theories. His relationships with his family and roommates deteriorate, leading to violent outbursts and isolation. Rick's erratic behavior lands him in trouble with the law and eventually in a psychiatric ward. Despite attempts at normalcy and support from his grandmother, Rick's mental health continues to decline. In this episode, Lindy continues the story of Rick, a man with severe hypochondria and a troubled childhood. Rick's drug use exacerbates his hypochondria, leading to a confrontation with a doctor. He develops an alter ego based on Jesse James's gang and becomes obsessed with history. Rick manages to secure social security benefits and starts cooking for himself to avoid food contamination. He believes he has telepathic abilities and demands an oxygen tent. The episode ends with Rick being kicked out of his parents' house and living on his own.
