Out into the Light: An Oral History of T...

L.A. Beadles
About this episode

Join me for an exploration of the life of Third Class Passenger Hilda Hellstrom. In November of this year, a group of Titanic researchers, enthusiasts and descendants assembled to honor her life and memories with a new headstone at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois. This episode is an amalgam of that experience, with descendant interviews conducted by listener Mia Morgante (an unsinkable thank you, Mia!) and insight from the Paul Burns, Titanic Museum Attractions' curator and Tony Probst, the collector who spearheaded this memorial service. Mia and I also sit down to unpack the experience, speak on the importance of preserving oral histories, and what a life like Hilda's means for all of us.

Special thank yous to: Paul Burns, Tony Probst, Anton Centko, Claire Centko, and everyone at the Titanic Museum Attractions
