COP28: Another cop or another cop-out?

THE ECONOMIC TIMES
About this episode

The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) kicks off in Dubai, marked by rising temperatures, a global energy crisis and conflicting climate goals due to changing priorities. The planet briefly breached the 2-degree Celsius warming threshold just ahead of the summit. Meanwhile, several nations have slowed down on their climate commitments, while India has proposed to increase coal production to meet rising demand. And, this could also very be the COP of irony, as The UAE, the host of COP28, reportedly plans to discuss fossil fuel deals alongside climate talks. Will COP28 be a turning point for climate action or another cop-out? Host Mugdha Variyar talks to

  • Urmi Goswami, ET’s resident climate and environment expert
  • Dhanpal Jhaveri, Vice Chairman & CEO, Everstone Group and EverSource Capital
