Cerca del 85% de los abortos voluntarios en España se derivan a clínicas privadas, concertadas o no. No los asumen los hospitales de la sanidad pública, porque los médicos y médicas se pueden acoger a la objeción de conciencia. Las causas de que esto ocurra son muchas. Pero profesionales y expertos creen que no ayuda que el aborto libre fuese un tabú en las facultades de medicina durante mucho tiempo, y todavía hoy en muchas no se hable en profundidad de ello. La ley sí hace hincapié en que debe haber una formación actualizada y adecuada en las carreras de ciencias de la salud, y para sanitarios ya en ejercicio.

En la Facultad de Granada le ponen especial empeño desde hace más de una década, contratando con presupuesto del departamento a actrices profesionales para que planteen situaciones reales relacionadas con la salud sexual en todas las clases de ginecología. Han tenido dificultades para ello con colegas, padres y alumnos.
