Depuis le mardi 3 octobre, le Musée d’Orsay accueille l’exposition événement « Van Gogh à Auvers-sur-Oise : les derniers mois ». Jusqu’en février 2024, les visiteurs peuvent y contempler les œuvres produites par le peintre néèrlandais au cours des deux derniers mois de sa vie, entre mai et juillet 1890.


C’est dans cette petite commune du Val-d’Oise, entourée de champs de blé, que l’artiste de 37 ans trouve refuge, après avoir passé un an interné dans un asile à Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône). Profondément mélancolique, Van Gogh peint toute la journée : 74 tableaux en 70 jours. Il se confie à ses proches à travers une correspondance abondante, qui est aujourd’hui considérée comme une œuvre littéraire. Des lettres où transparaissent la solitude du peintre et sa frustration de ne pas être reconnu pour son art…
