Slide 3:
The meaning of:
CROSS THAT BRIDGE WHEN WE COME TO IT

to not worry about a possible problem until it actually happens;
to deal with a situation when it happens and not before

Let’s look at three illustrated sentence examples . . .

Slide 4:
In the picture we see a conversation between two women in a train.

Elderly lady: “What shall I do if I can’t get a hospital appointment this month?”

Friend: “Let’s not worry about that now. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

Here’s another example . . .

Slide 5:
In the picture we see two women with a laptop computer booking air tickets.

1st friend: “But that only leaves two hours between flights. What if our flight is delayed and we miss the connection?”

2nd friend: “Let’s go ahead and book and cross that bridge when we come to it.”

Here’s a third example . . .

Slide 6:
We see two men in a park discussing business.

Man on right: “Your idea sounds good but what if the bank turns you down for the loan?”

Man on left: “I prefer to think positively. I will cross that bridge when I come to it.”

Slide 6:
So remember, if you want to persuade someone to stop worrying about some possible future problem, just say:
“Let’s cross that bridge when we come to it!”
