“You’re the most handsome little boy in the universe!” were words I heard my mother say almost every single day since I was born. I was the only child and I think that my mom got pregnant just after she married my dad. They never really had much time alone before I came along.
My mom treated me like a little prince but my dad was never really affectionate. I remember waking up from a bad dream when I was four years old. I was too afraid to stay in my room so I walked to my parents’ room. They were arguing about something so I stood behind the door to listen. I may not remember the argument word for word because it was a really long time ago but it went something like this;
“I don’t know why you can’t be nicer to Tory. He’s a lovely boy.” my mom said.
“I don’t like him. ” my dad replied.
Then the lights went off and they went silent. This was worse than the nightmare I was trying to escape from. Why didn’t my dad like me?
After that my mom continued to treat me kindly but my dad became colder and colder. Then, one day at dinner my mom said she had some exciting news for us.
