Dans ce pays divisé où les colons et les locaux vivent séparément dans deux univers différents , cette affaire de disparation deviendra le problème commun de tous. C’est le début de la légende de la confrérie des Thugs , adorateurs de la déesse Kâli, qui sèmera la terreur pendant de longues années en Inde. Qui étaient ces hommes, quelles étaient leurs coutumes et pour quelle raison s’en prenaient-ils à des innocents ?
