De nombreuses légendes arthuriennes, mais aussi mythologiques et bibliques, parlent de gigantesques combattants, fantastiques ou au moins fantasmés. Mais il y en a certains qui ont vraiment existé, et même laissé des traces de leur passage. C’est ainsi qu’aux Pays Bas, le Fries Museum de Leeuwarden conserve une épée de 2m15 de long ! C’est celle d’un géant qui a vraiment existé, un héros de l’indépendance frisone : Grutte Pier.
