Curiosity Killed the Umbilicus

MEDGEEKS
About this episode

In this week’s podcast, we will cover umbilical hernias. Including some causes, signs & symptoms, and the treatment you will recommend to your patient.

An umbilical hernia occurs when fatty tissue or intestine pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscle. This can be more common in obese or pregnant women. The signs & symptoms you may see are bulging or swelling, tenderness or discomfort and potential incarcerations of the intestine.

Next are the treatment options which can range from watchful waiting to surgical intervention. With proper treatment, umbilical hernias have very rare complications.

Join Dr. Niket Sonpal as he dives into umbilical hernias.
