#439: Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed |...

Real Crime Profile / Wondery
About this episode

There are high profile cases you think you know, but the truth is far more nuance, complicated and terrible than anything the media could ever cover during a headline making trial. On the evening of June 20th 1989, Lyle Menendez (21) and his brother Erik Menendez (18) shot their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez to death in their Beverly Hills home. Of that there is no dispute. In 1996, the brothers were each finally convicted (after a first trial ended in deadlock) of two counts of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

At the time, their defense contended that years of horrific emotional, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their father Jose, and the complicity of their mother Kitty, made the sons fear for their lives and kill their parents in self defense. However few in the media, the public and certainly on that jury, believed them. Until now. In the new explosive Peacock documentary "Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed" there is a new corroborating witness, Roy Rosello, who claims Jose Menendez was a pedophile who sexually abused him when he was a young member of the boy band Menudo. Will these new revelations open the door for a new trial for the Menendez Brothers? Listen as we dig into this complicated and conflicting case.
