À Interlaken, Erich Von Däniken termine à 87 ans son quarante-cinquième livre sur les extraterrestres. Son thème, traduit au fil des décennies en 32 langues, c’est celui d’extraterrestres qui auraient visité la Terre pour « aider » les civilisations antiques à construire les temples et pyramides dont l’ingénierie impressionne toujours aujourd’hui. Si cette ambiguë archéologie fantastique confisque à certaines civilisations la capacité d’avoir érigé elles-mêmes ces monuments, elle questionne aussi le rôle du rationalisme européen dans la destruction des cultures non-occidentales.
