De Turquía a Italia: por qué el naufragi...

Volvemos a hablar de otra tragedia en una playa italiana. Cerca de 180 personas hicieron 1200 kilómetros de viaje por mar desde Turquía en un viejo pesquero de madera, durante cuatro días, para naufragar a solo 150 metros de la costa de Calabria. En el frío mar de febrero, en medio de un fuerte oleaje, murieron mujeres, niños, decenas de personas. Las cifras aún son inciertas. Este naufragio ha vuelto a poner sobre la mesa el fracaso de Italia con la inmigración, pero también en cómo la afronta Europa.

Las víctimas procedían de Siria, Irak y Afganistán, países en guerra en los que no tenían ninguna oportunidad. Para llegar a la Unión Europea tomaron la ruta turca, la que parte del oeste de Turquía y bordea la costa griega por el mar Egeo y el Jónico para llegar a Italia. Es la ruta más larga y la más peligrosa para alcanzar Europa desde Asia. Pero muchos inmigrantes la han seguido en los últimos meses. Frontex estima que solo el año pasado la cruzaron 42.800 personas. En este episodio tratamos de explicar por qué con Daniel Verdú, corresponsal de EL PAÍS en Italia, y con Andrés Mourenza, corresponsal en Estambul.
