Our limited minds have convinced us that life can only ever consist of "either-or"s. That two opposites cannot co-exist. It is always either black or white. Good or bad. Up or down. We are limited and finite in our imagination of our emotional capacities, and are constantly reducing our experiences to one thing or the other.
But this creates a problem when considering the concept of gratitude. It puts us at a risk of perceiving both ourselves and other people as phonies for expressing our gratitude during difficult seasons, or as pessimists for not acknowledging the good thing that stands right outside their door.
The good gratitude practice quickly runs the risk of being a very dangerous and toxic thing, unless we begin seeing how our messy human lives are in fact all about the "both-and"s.
Today's episode is vulnerable and important! Happy listening.
