It’s been called an assault on religious minorities, women and LGBT people. A worrying step back for democracy and human rights. And a crackdown on dissent. There are very few, if any, people speaking out in support of the Indonesia’s new criminal code. Yet it passed parliament with the support of almost all political parties.
It contains some direct threats to Indonesia’s LGBT community and also some potentially hidden ones. To guide us through the extensive changes and what they mean, in this podcast we are joined by Tim Lindsey – the Director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at The University of Melbourne.
