#325 - 5 Questions to Ask Your Architect...

David Lee and Marina Bourderonnet
About this episode

This week David and Marina, Partners at FAME Architecture and Design discuss the 5 questions clients should ask their architects before hiring them. Not all architects work the same way and it’s important that you know what you are getting.

  1. Experience: Ask what their profession-specific experience is.
    • Project-specific experience is not necessarily as important as profession-specific experience (e.g. architecture vs construction vs interior design).
  2. Scope: Ask what physical parts of the project they will design, plan, and specify and not.
    • Some architects will only design certain parts of a building.
  3. Process: Ask for a description of the overall project process phases and what the architect will do during each of the phases.
    • Not all architects provide the same level of services throughout a project.
  4. Deliverables: Ask what drawings, materials, and documentation the architect will provide.
    • There are basic deliverables that architects should provide, make sure you will get them.
  5. Contract: Ask for an explanation of their contract. Do not assume short contracts are better than long ones.

FAME is a residential architecture and interior design office founded by French Architect and Interior Designer Marina Bourderonnet and American Architect David Bruce Lee. The office is distinguished by its unique designs, diverse experience, and comprehensive services.
