S3E1: Is Leadership for Me? with Moira S...

Veterans Health Administration
About this episode
Welcome to Season 3! We’ve got so much fun instore for you! On this season’s opener, Dr. Shari Dade is joined by Moira Shaughnessy. Moira is a program manager and trainer in the Veteran’s Benefits Administration’s Leadership Development Directorate of Human Capital Services. She also manages a national-level leadership development program called LEAD to prepare GS 10 through 12 employees for first-line leadership. Moira is also considered to be a thought curator and podcaster in her own right as she has been the host of the VA Distinguished Speaker Series from its inception. Listen in for tips on how to answer the question, “Is leadership for me?”

Key Lessons:
1) Limiting beliefs about our own abilities or unconscious beliefs about who deserves or “should” be leaders can often prevent great leaders from taking the leap into leadership!
2) Although leadership may seem like the “logical next step”, ask yourself if now is the time to step into a formal leadership role.
3) Everyone is a leader in their own right, but formal leadership roles and positions call for someone who is people minded and open to being vulnerable enough to learn new things!
