LAIST STUDIOS
About this episode

In this weekend edition: Medi-cal is expanding its emotional advocacy and educational support for low income families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

It's all part of a massive transformation of California's  Medicaid program that will expand benefits beyond health care, and into the realm of social services. As part of this transformation, the state plans to bring several types of non-traditional health care workers, such as doulas, into the Medi-Cal workforce.

But, as Early Education Correspondent Mariana Dale reports, it could take several months to get the program up and running.

Support for this podcast is made possible by Gordon and Dona Crawford, who believe that quality journalism makes Los Angeles a better place to live.
