An English Story at Three Speeds

BOB THE CANADIAN
About this episode

Welcome to this English listening practice lesson! In this lesson I'll be telling an English story at three different speeds.

The first time I will tell it slowly, speaking each word clearly, and not using any contractions or reductions. The second time I'll tell the story at a quicker pace, and use contractions. The third time I'll speak close to my normal speed and use contractions and reductions.

If you watch this English lesson until the end you'll also hear me attempt to read the story at a ludicrous speed, as well as an extra slow version.

I hope you enjoy this little English listening class! Have a great day!

Version 1 (Slow Speed):
Let me tell you about a young man named Paul.
He did not like going to the mall.
When his mom would say, โ€œTime to go!โ€
He would say, โ€œI am just going to stay home!โ€
And this would drive his mom up the wall.
Because she would leave in the car,
and she would not get far,
before Paul would text her and ask,
โ€œCould you buy me some new pants
and a couple of new houseplants.
Oh, and I am kind of hungry, could you get me something to eat?โ€
She would then stop the car.
and text a reply.
Saying, โ€œYou should have told me that before I left.
I am going to come back home to get you.
I will be home in a couple of minutes.
Please be ready to go!โ€

Version 2 (Medium Speed):
Let me tell you about a young man named Paul.
He didnโ€™t like going to the mall.
When his mom would say, โ€œTime to go!โ€
Heโ€™d say, โ€œIโ€™m going to stay home!โ€
And this would drive his mom up the wall.
Because sheโ€™d leave in the car,
and she wouldnโ€™t get far,
before Paul would text her and ask,
โ€œCould you buy me some new pants
and a couple of new houseplants.
Oh, and Iโ€™m kind of hungry, could you get me something to eat?โ€
Sheโ€™d then stop the car.
and text a reply.
Saying, โ€œYou shouldโ€™ve told me that before I left.
Iโ€™m going to come back home to get you.
Iโ€™ll be home in a couple of minutes.
Please be ready to go!

Version 3 (Fast Speed Note: Spellings Are by Sound and Not Correct!):
Lemme tell ya โ€˜bout a young man named Paul.
He didnโ€™t like goinโ€™ to the mall.
When his mom โ€˜ould say, โ€œTime to go!โ€
Heโ€™d say, โ€œIโ€™m gonna stay home!โ€
And this โ€˜ould drive โ€˜is mom up the wall.
cause sheโ€™d leave in the car.
and she wouldnโ€™t get far,
before Paul โ€˜ould text โ€˜er and ask,
โ€œCouldja buy me some new pants
and a couple โ€˜a new houseplants.

Iโ€™ll be home in a coupleโ€™a minutes.
