In this HRchat we talk about ways to maximize the success of new leaders. Our returning guest is Bill Treasurer, Chief Encouragement Officer at Giant Leap Consulting.

Bill is an evangelist for courage, a writer, speaker, and consultant. He is on a mission to build workplace courage to deliver fantastic results. He is the originator of the new organizational development practice of courage-building, and the author of Courageous Leadership: A Program for Using Courage to Transform the Workplace. The program has been taught in eleven countries since its launch in 2011.

He is also the author of the international bestseller "Courage Goes to Work: How to Build Backbones, Boost Performance, and Get Results,". His latest book, released in September 2022, is called Leadership Two Words at a Time: Simple Truths for Leading Complicated People.

You wrote the book based on real-world experiences from the hundreds of leaders that you have worked with in your career. This book is a collection of all of the lessons these leaders wish they had known on day one as a leader. Tell me about the book.
  • The book is geared towards the new leader. Why is the transition into a leadership role one of the most challenging moves a team member will make in their career
  • What are the consequences of leaders who micromanage? 
  • You and the Giant Leap team have conducted 100s of corporate workshops focused on strengthening leadership skills, improving team performance, accelerating innovation, and helping executives behave more courageously. What are some of the common objections you hear from established leaders averse to changing their behaviors?
  • Where does HR fit in? How can HR help to change the mindset of new leaders?
