LGBT rights in Africa is a mixed bag. While a few progressive countries have anti-discrimination protections or even same-sex marriage, there are also countries that still maintain the death penalty or lengthy imprisonment for homosexual acts. And while the international community is keen to influence this, lasting change must come from within.
