S2EP6: Success Shaped by Failure with Dr...

Veterans Health Administration
About this episode
On this episode, Dr. Shari Dade takes a moment to connect with Dr. Erica Scavella, a member of Senior Executive Service (SES), who serves as the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Clinical Services and the Chief Medical Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Scavella and her team define VA’s clinical strategy and policy in order to assure the provision of an enterprise-wide, patient-driven, evidence-based standard of care, the reduction of unintended variability in outcomes, and the delivery of world class healthcare for Veterans.

Listen in for a discussion on how to begin thinking about missteps or failures as breadcrumbs leading to your success!

Key Lessons:
1) As a leader it is important to be a model and share failures or areas of growth with your team to encourage their own growth and understanding of how to rebound.
2) Look at each misstep as a canary in a coalmine and take inventory of what you learned from failures. Think about ways your can expand your toolbox from these learnings.
3) When rebounding from failure, gather a support team to help along the way. You will likely find the answers are already in the room!
