The Song of Beowulf

KIDS STORIES
About this episode

Greetings!Welcome back to the podcast and let me introduce the heroic Beowulf! Beowulf is an epic poem that is one of the most important texts in old English (that's an English that was spoken thousands of years ago and sounds very different from what we speak today!)

Monster alert! There is a monster in this story, and like most monsters, he's not the most pleasant chap! I try to be careful about the monsters I choose for the podcast because some of them are unnecessarily scary! I do, however, think that some monsters have a place in our unconscious as a society-they are often very relatable for little children, as they represent something-our deepest darkest fears and feelings for which we may not have words! That's why they have been a constant feature in stories from the start of time. They represent also, struggles that can be understood, faced,  and hopefully overcome. So never fear, this monster is taken on with courage by the brave Beowulf- our monsters are sometimes not as scary when they are brought out fully into the light.
