Content Is Queen
About this episode

Welcome the Wanna Be- the podcast takes you from where you are now to where you wanna be in 30 minutes or less. Happy Black History Month!

I’m Imriel Morgan, Founder of Content is Queen a podcast community that specialises in empowering and amplifying underrepresented voices, specifically women, people of colour, and LGBTQIA+ people.

Thank you so much for taking the time to be here! Wanna Be’s focus is to help you take consistent action to build a successful life and career in the creative and entertainment industry. But this month we’re going to spend some time looking back as well as forward.

Today’s guest is writer, stylist and consultant Aja Barber whose work deals with the intersections of sustainability and the fashion landscape.  Aja has amassed a platform of over 200k Instagram followers who look to her for insights, education and knowledge on what’s happening in the world of sustainable fashion and consumerism. Aja’s work builds heavily on ideas behind privilege, wealth inequality, racism, feminism, colonialism and how to fix the fashion industry with all these things in mind.

In today’s interview Aja shares what it’s really like to grow your platform and the pitfalls that come with sudden growth. Aja reveals what it takes to take down fast fashion and what you need to do to be on the right side of history. We also get into the intersections of fast fashion, from colonialism, climate change and Consumerism.

Wheeew we got deep and this was not an easy edit let me tell you so Let’s get into it!

I think I’m going to have to put out the extended cut of this interview because this snippet isn’t giving everything it’s supposed to gave! I mean we got so deep and I can only hope that it’s got you thinking. If this is the first time you’re coming across Aja Barber and her work I highly recommend following her over on Instagram @AjaBarber and buying her book ‘Consumed” to really understand the situation we’re presently in!

I hope this half an hour has made you think, reflect and contemplate what your next step should be. If you enjoyed this episode please do share it with your friends or on social media.
