About this episode

Dr.  Susan Sherman is a Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior, and Society at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Her work focuses on improving the health of marginalized populations, particularly that of people who use drugs and sex workers. Dr. Sherman is interested in the structural drivers of health and risk. You can learn more about the Sparc Center that she co-founded, and find out more about her research here.

Susan discusses stigma toward drug use, sex work, and homelessness. She talks about the connectedness between us, the work it takes to stay alive while living in poverty, and the power of empathy.  Susan describes the importance of looking people in the eye and acknowledging one another's humanity. We discuss how people can pay it forward to be part of the solution.
