They starred in a long-running series of radio dramas adapted from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, which aired from 1952 to 1969.Their portrayals are highly regarded for capturing the essence of the characters, with Hobbs's Holmes being logical and incisive while still retaining a sense of humor and affection for his chronicler, and Shelley's Watson being steadfastly loyal and gently humorous. Many listeners still believe their performances set the standard for radio adaptations of the Holmes canon
